Puerto Rico

Lutheran Social Services of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Synod will be partnering to host a volunteer rebuild/repair program for the survivors of Hurricane Maria. For information on how to volunteer, please email Joseph Chu at Joseph.Chu@elca.org.

U.S. Virgin Islands

Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands will be hosting a three-year volunteer rebuilding program to provide construction assistance to survivors of Hurricanes Irma and Maria living on the island of St. Croix. Georgia

The State of Georgia in the past two years has had several disasters and is reaching out to volunteers who wish to help restore hope, to give strength and provide healing to our state’s residents.  We have opportunities in Albany, where straight line winds and a F3 tornado struck coastal Georgia, has witnessed the effects of Hurricane Matthew and Irma and other parts of our state has seen the effects of a large hurricane and some smaller tornadoes. We are looking for volunteers who have willing hearts, in good health, generally 16 years of age and older and have a variety of skills. Volunteers specifically who have skills in construction including roofing, framing, demolition, drywall hanging and finishing, trim, siding, insulation, painting are welcomed to join us and help lead less skilled but willing volunteers in our recovery.

Texas – Hurricane Harvey

Mississippi

In January of 2017, a tornado ripped through Hattiesburg, Mississippi causing four deaths, over 50 injuries and extensive damage to local infrastructure and hundreds of homes. The Southeastern Synod and other partners are seeking volunteers to help survivors get back into their homes. West Virginia

Volunteers are needed to assist survivors of the 1,000-year flood that hit West Virginia in June 2016. The recovery effort is expected to take 3-5 years.  Most of the immediate needs that volunteer teams will address will be in rebuilding. Camp Noah – A special ministry for children affected by community trauma/disaster

Camp Noah is a resiliency and preparedness program for children in communities impacted by disaster. Teams travel to sites all over the US. Groups or individuals may register for this week-long mission trip. For more information call (800) 987-0061.
